A photo posted by Ginnie Jester (@ginniejester) on Aug 15, 2015 at 1:11pm PDT   Aptly, today we focus our lens on the Magician. So without further adieu, here she is: The artist Aristide Maillol (1861-1944) cast a series of nude bronze sculptures placed in the Tuileries, one of which is the Nymph. She is the most playful, most knowing-eyed of the trio nestled within a path of tall shrubs just below the grand palace entry. Josep Pla once said of Maillol, “These archaic ideas, Greek, were the great novelty Maillol brought into the tendency of modern sculpture. What you need to love from the ancients is not the antiquity, it is the sense of permanent, renewed novelty, that is due to the nature and reason.” Combined with this flavor of ancient permanence is the truth and fruit of modern Parisian culture: street...

City Mystic Tarot Kickstarter

City Mystic Tarot Kickstarter

Hello again everyone! With so many platforms and social media sites, I’ve been preoccupied with connecting… and haven’t had much time to post here. So today I thought I’d remedy that and take some time to blog about our experience with City Mystic Tarot Kickstarter . The last time I wrote about this project we were just in the beginning phases of creating images from my photography. Chris and I worked an average of 20 hours a week each on this project until it was complete in June. What a wild ride that was! Post by City Mystic • New York. Along with epic battles over which images to utilize and how to stay true to the Golden Dawn  system of card meanings, we also had fulfilling, warm, mind-busiting love-bliss moments when we could look at our work, look at each other, and feel nothing but gratitude and joy for the entire experience.     Just like deck crafting, bringing the first commercial print to life has proven to be its own roller coaster ride! Once we completed the deck we began selling a hand-made copy (we had to round the corners by hand, cut and hand-build the boxes and complete all packaging), we realized that we had made something others could enjoy and appreciate as much as we did. The individual prints were EXPENSIVE, even on our end. It was (and still is until we are funded, if we are funded) impossible for us to offer the deck to boutiques and potential whole-sale clients, and it was a bit of a problem. Each deck took about 2 and 1/2...
Motown on Mondays to Save Your Soul!

Motown on Mondays to Save Your Soul!

Earlier this month (April) I had the chance to sit with the soul-soaked DJ’s at Motown on Mondays in San Francisco’s Western Addition/NOPA neighborhood to find out what their secret recipe is. Recently they’ve expanded to multiple cities across the US, and there’s even talk about a bus tour (kind of sounds familiar, no?)   After riding the good vibes week by week in San Francisco, and then again in Brooklyn, NY, I just knew I had to capture the magic and find out what exactly is holding this amazing party together from city to city.  The resulting convos were nothing short of soul-foritfying… maybe over-produced pop isn’t winning our souls over after all… With some of the nicest, most down to earth DJ’s in any city, and a sound that simply cannot be replaced, the MoM crew has humble aims- to keep it all in the family <3   Here’s what they had to say about the party’s humble beginnings, the expansion of the MoM family, and what’s next for Motown on Mondays. Plus, we were just in time to start revving up for the MoM five-year anniversary party in May!   Check out motownonmondays.com for heart-hitting remix albums, tour dates, city specs, and the deers on the big anniversary party! Much love, and thanks for watching. Be sure to subscribe to the video cast to see lots of great art, music and culture interviews coming up in 2014 <3       Like what you hear? I wonder if there’s a MoM party near you…...
Magnum Opus Spring Update

Magnum Opus Spring Update

Spring is charging along, in true Aries fashion, and much is happening behind the scenes at Magnum Opus! Despite much planning and enthusiasm, we have decided not to pursue a full Gypsy Bus tour, and have opted, instead, to participate in a small West Coast tour of selected music and consciousness festivals. We’ve decided to utilize the funds we saved and built for a project much closer to our hearts- our very first photographic Tarot deck! Here’s a little Teaser of the completed Major Arcana… (btw, you can work with these when we work together this season… read below to find out how and where) In late February/ early March, the Magnum Opus team (myself, Ginnie Jester, and graphic designer Chris Hopkins of Good Choice Design) packed our bags and became bi-coastal! It was the beginning of a project we have utterly fallen in love with (and we hope you do too!)- our very first Magnum Opus Tarot deck! Currently, we’ve completed the Major Arcana portion, which we will be performing Consciousness readings with in the style of Integrative-Occult Tarot (along with two other staple decks- Rider-Waite and Thoth) this season on our festival tour! Our first stop on the tour is Lucidity in Santa Barbara, CA. I’ll be offering three different kinds of Tarot readings in exchange for donations. If you’ve been eagerly waiting for a Magnum Opus reading with me and plan on being at Lucidity, please stop by! I’d love to connect and read for you! I’m bringing three decks with me, and will be offering one type of reading for each deck: Schedule and Readings...
AstroTAROT ’14 Forecast

AstroTAROT ’14 Forecast

This week Magnum Opus delves deep into the archetypal mysteries through the dual portal of Astrology and Tarot. Based on the correspondence system set forth by the Golden Dawn, we peer into the major transits of 2014 through their Tarot counterparts. We define the energetic pulse of the year Numerologically and describe several angles of these archetypal ballets. This episode is a multi-media archetypal extravaganza! Not to be missed. Last year’s show proved to be terribly helpful (it will be reposed soon- the entire cast is migrating from podomatic where it was audio only. All previous episodes are being re-mastered in video, so stay tuned!). Card images used are of the Rider-Waite[-Smith] deck. All photos are property of Ginnie Jester.
